For the people close to you
Partners and family
Loss lands on more than one person, and not always in the same way.
If you are a partner
You are welcome in some sessions or all of them, at the same fee. Some partners want a session of their own, and that works too. People in the same loss often grieve at different speeds, and sessions can make room for both.
If you are a parent, a sibling or a friend
You do not have to be a client to be useful. Often the most helpful thing is to say the loss out loud, say that you are sorry, and ask what would help this week. If you are unsure what to say, our page of words may help.
What helps, in a few lines
Say it plainly
“I'm so sorry about the baby.” A short sentence is kinder than a clever one.
Leave out the silver lining
Skip “at least it was early” and “you can try again.” They tend to close the conversation.
Remember the dates
A due date or an anniversary may be hard. A short message that day is remembered.
